Rolling out 4G / WiMAX in Malaysia (4)
Mar 19th
IT IS OUT ALREADY!!
Four companies were awarded the license for WiMAX
1) Green Packet Bhd
2) REDtone International Bhd
3) YTL E-Solutions Bhd
4) Asiaspace Dotcom Sdn Bhd
Award given by Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission
Reports The Star, Fri 16/03/07
Bis players like Maxis and DiGi were left out with the award.
I would say that this is a fair deal by the government to provide
an equal playing field for all sectors to all companies whom are
capable to roll-out the infrastructure in good hands. WiMAX is a no
joke and it will be the technology for future generations in broadband
usage in Malaysia.
A little bit on WiMAX again, WiMAX is the “next generation” of broadband
which is faster than 3G. The coverage of the broadband could cover up to
50 KM, while the speed would go up to 70 megabits per second.
Compared to 3G which speed is up to 15 megabits per second.
With such coverage and speed, the cost for the infrastructure is way
much lower than 3G’s.
Greenpacket has already set’s its first location to roll out WiMAX.
Testing has been underway, they have their very own product.
Cost for money, lightweight and high speed connectivity.
As the players promises affordable broadband, I can strongly say,
“don’t worry about the price”. You are gonna pay for great service
and coverage, that-which is for Greenpacket’s products.
I will post more details about Greenpacket’s product soon.

So, no latest BIG news yet..
But, one particular company, namely GreenPacket is gonna kick everyone’s
ass so big this time. It is not like I’ve just known them, but i’ve known them
for quite some time already..
In the recent news (well not so recent).
The Star reported that YTL-e and GreenPacket emerge as frontrunners.
The Minister of Energy, Water and Communication Datuk Seri Lim Keng Yaik
was suppose to announce the winners by the end of last month, February
but there was no news about it. Guess there is a delay again…
YTL and Greenpacket are two big giants who are bidding for WiMax through
their stake in other companies..
YTL-e announced in late December it would subscribe to new shares in Bizsurf (M) Sdn Bhd, giving it a 50% stake in the company.
Bizsurf is one of 17 licensed service providers that have applied for and are being considered for the 2.3GHz spectrum for WiMAX deployment.
YTL-e would pay RM1.3mil cash for the 50% interest in Bizsurf. This is a small sum for YTL-e, which reported in its last financial results that it held RM167.8mil cash.
Green Packet’s bid for WiMAX is through MIB Comm Sdn Bhd, which is 55% owned by Packet One International Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Green Packet.
Packet One bought the MIB Comm stake in December for RM6mil cash, on condition that an additional RM3mil would be paid to the vendors if the company secured the 2.3GHz spectrum.
My bet for the biggest winner would be GreenPacket.. Why?
Seriously, I’ve seen their product, touch and felt their product.
It has all the thing you wanted for a wireless broadband.
Some features of GreenPacket which would make you get yourself one:
Mobility, Affordability, Wide Coverage and Lightweight.
The company strength is also good enough to be strong in the market
Green Packet is currently installing its SONmetro infrastructure in the Klang Valley that can deploy broadband services using fourth-generation (4G) technology and long-range WiFi coverage. The group’s infrastructure would be enhanced if it secures a WiMAX licence.
The company is also cash-rich, reporting it had RM125mil in cash at end-September last year. That would have been boosted by a private placement in November of new Green Packet shares issued at RM4.50 each, which raised RM182mil cash.
It would thus have over RM300mil in cash.
GreenPacket is slated to come in soon in mid-April.
So watch this blog for updates on GreenPacket…
The Phone
Mar 2nd
This is a true story of a young college gurl who past away last month, at
Shah Alam. her name is Priya. She was hit by a lorry. I don’t wanna mention
the name of the college. She have a boy friend named Shankar. He stays in
Johor. Both of them are true lovers. They always hang on the phone.
U can never see her without her handphone.
She spends 3/4 of the day talking with Shankar. Priya’s family knows about
their relationship. Shankar is very close with Priya’s family.
(just imagine their love) ..
Before she passed away she always told her frens
“If I pass away please burn me with my handphone”
she also said the same thing to her parents.
After her death, people cant carry her coffin. I was there. a lot of them tried
to do so but still cant , everybody including me, had tried to carry the coffin,
the result is still the same.
Eventually, they called their neighbour, a “bomoh” from Thailand (pak Darin),
who is a fren of her father. He took a sit and started speaking to himself slowly.
After a few minutes, he said “this girl misses something here”.
Then her frens told Pak Darin bout her intentions to burn her with her phone.
He then opened the coffin and place her phone and SIM card inside the casket.
After that they tried to carry the coffin. It could be moved and they carried
it into the van easily. All of us were shocked.
(can u feel the fear. i’m shaking at this moment)
Priya’s parents didn’t inform Shankar that Priya had passed away.
(pity Shankar).
After 2 weeks Shankar called Priya’s mom.
Shankar : “Atte, I’m coming home 2day, cook something nice for me.
Dont tell Priya that i’m coming home 2day. i wanna suprise her.”
Her mother: “u come home first, i wanna tell u something very important.”
After he came to shah alam, they told him the truth about Priya.
Shankar thinks that they were playing a fool.
He was laughing and said “dont try to fool me. tell Priya to come out. i
have a gift for her.pls stop this nonsense”.
Then they show him the original death certificate to him. They gave him
proof to make him believe.(Shankar started to sweat) ..
He said… “its not true. we spoke yesterday. she still calls me”
Shankar was shaking. suddenly, Shankar’s phone rang.
Shankar: “see this is from Priya. see this…”
He shows to Priya’s family. All of them told him to answer. He talked using
the loudspeaker mode. All of them heard his conversation
Loud and clear. no cross lines, no humming.
It is the actual voice of Priya & there is no way others could use her sim-card
since it is nailed inside the coffin the y were so shocked and asked for
Pak Darin’s help again.
Pak Darin brought his master (Tok Chen) to solve this matter.
He & Darin worked for 5 hours. than they discovered one thing…

Rolling out 4G / WiMAX in Malaysia (2)
Jan 10th
After my first entry on the real possibility of WiMAX coming to Malaysia.
Everyone is so tight-lip on who will be issued the license for WiMAX?
Will it be Digi? or Maxis who already got 3G so as Celcom. OR.. would it
be Telekom this time? Remember, telekom is already a private company.
For those who are not so tech-savvy, WiMAX stands for
Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access
It is the future of mobile broadband and it is lauded for its capability to
provide great content to the users and it also cost cheaper to be rolled out.
Currently what we Malaysian are enjoying is WiBro (Wireless Broadband)
Similarly WiFi. That also, we are paying like heaps for it.
Maxis Wireless Broadband is NOT very good I would say. With the wireless
router as bulky as a baby carrying a big elephant. NO WAY BRO!
Now last year, mid year in May, TM was announced that it has teamed
up with a number of 21 international telecom carriers to push its way
towards WiMAX, to expand their market reach and intra-industry
cooperation.
Nasioncom is also going to fight for it. They have teamed up with Deutsche
Telekom AG to help roll out the RM 200 Million WiMAX network here.
As far as i know, the strong notable contender for WiMAX last year was
DiGi, Redtone, Maxis, TM and Nasioncom and of course others…
Towards the end of last year, news were circulating that WiMAX trials are
being runned nationwide, mostly by the bidders. Cited first place for WiMAX
roll out would be Putrajaya and Cyberjaya.
Some of the big players and to mention a few like British Telecoms, Intel
and Alcatel are putting their hands on WiMAX developments around the
globe. They are gonna work hand in hand with local players.
I have been waiting for this moment, this year 2007 for the news of who
will be given the TWO WiMAX licenses
Let’s just not get another suprise news and personally.. I really DO NOT
want Telekom Malaysia to get their hands on this license after looking at
their SERIOUS UNUSABLE Streamyx Broadband.
I’m just hoping this one MESDAQ listed company will get its hand on
WiMAX because of their capability to roll out wireless broadband on
par with WiMAX so far. Wat out for the news coming end January.
Rolling out 4G / WiMAX in Malaysia
Dec 6th
Malaysia has announce it will offer two pioneer local company
to hold the 4G/WiMAX license next year.
Let’s hope this will enhance connectivity in Malaysia’s broadband
internet coverage to be larger and better.
I’m still waiting..
