Birthday boy gives out presents by Jade Chan

INSTEAD of receiving gifts, travel agent sales manager Thomas Yap celebrated his 24th birthday last Saturday by presenting gifts to three lucky children from Persatuan Rumah Kanak-Kanak Ini Disayangi (Rumah K.I.D.S.).

“My original intention was to bring some cheer to the children, whom I got to know during a secondary school trip about eight years ago. When I found out that the party would be held on my birthday, I decided that it would be a great way to celebrate with them as well,” said Yap.

He presented two new sets of outfits and a guitar, which originally belonged to him.

“I bought the guitar more than 10 years ago but never got around to learning to play the instrument. When I found out that one of the children had requested for a guitar, I thought it would be better to give it to someone who needs it. I just had the guitar polished and restringed.”
