The Boss, came down on a short trip to KL. As usual for his day trip, he will come into the office and most of the half day will be spent with him talking about new developments and of course, his concern is always about the monthly bottom line. It has been very encouraging for the past few months, and I’m liking the result. Just that, need to reorganize some office management to keep things in a smooth flow.

I had a conversation with The Boss while driving him to KL Sentral to catch his bus to LCCT. He has always been that adventurous and very independent and at his age now, he has more good days to come.

Me: Boss, what keeps you going at this age?
The Boss: You see Thomas, in life, it is passion and dreams is the mechanics. You dream for large house, you have a passion for high society life, a passion to serve clients, to be with your staffs, to work with new environments, to be able to do more than you can do and many more.
Me: Uhuh…
The Boss: At my age now, (he is about 67 if I’m not mistaken) many people opt to retire and stay at home or what you call early retirement. I choose to continue with what I do. For me, I’m a workaholic. I like to work and that is my passion. I need to keep these mechanics running to keep me going.
Me: Alright… (agrees at his points thus far)
The Boss: When you stop running your mechanics, you will eventually stop everything in your life. After so many years of working and then suddenly, you stop. What else you gonna do? Sit at home and watch TV? That is not going to help, unless you do something more constructive. You need to keep your brain working and you need to also work on your body.
Me: So, its actually that the brain is the whole CPU and when you stop working and retire and practically do nothing, its kinda like useless for some people?
The Boss: Yes, you can say so. I choose to keep running and keep on going as long and as much as I can. This is how I keep myself healthy both physically and mentally.
Me: Hmm.. its all in the passion eh…

The conversation continues to his vision of the company and more. It was a good 30 minutes talk. Give me reassurance that I am all good with this company. Tho, its kinda tough, but I’m all good.

See, I’m like my boss in the sense of workaholic. I’m a workaholic as many of you would have known now. I like what I do. I like the service industry, none in particular, but travel industry is part of service industry as well. I meet different people, character, attitude and background mostly every single day. I find that, with meeting more people, you tend to learn more and you will eventually blend well with people around you easily.

It really depends on the kinda of people you mix with. I choose to mix without any discrimination and of course, some people just don’t and can’t mix well with you, what can you do but just sway away or let it be.

The power of networking. I bet you have heard about this. It really is powerful. Tried and tested I have and there more to come.

What keeps me going is the passion to be someone one day. Who is that someone? I don’t really quite know. But I have a vision and dream that I will be someone who is rich. Rich in happiness, friends, intellect and of course wealth.

What keep YOU going in whatever you do?
