P1 WiMAX Launch at Mandarin Oriental

August 22, 2008 – 10:00 pm

On the 19th August 2008, P1 WiMAX was launched and it was great that I get to attend this auspicious event! Come on, it is like being part of a revolution that will change the internet broadband landscape…

Before I can go ahead, you can read all my previous WiMAX related post. The listing has post since 2006 where I started following the news of Green Packet, the parent company of Packet One who has plan to roll out WiMAX here in Malaysia up till today, the launch on the 19th August 2008.

So I am here at the P1 WiMAX launch and the setup is great! They had the girls body painted in “wtf” colours to parade their products…

Then, these two girls are so call the “mascot” and the “escort” of the event…

Pre-event, there are displays of products at the foyer and I had a chance to see what P1 has to offer with their WiMAX. Here is their video streaming product they call “Packet Eyes”.

Then, they have even VoIP…

and of course their official launch product, the WiMAX modem.

They had chocolate fountain at the foyer.. so I practically whacked the mashmallow like damn a lot of them…

The launch takes place at the Grand Ballroom at Mandarin Oriental Hotel, KL.
Hosted by Hannah Tan, it was a grand scale event and eventually, the people behind the whole event are from Hotshoes! As usual, their event is trademark, IMPRESSIVE!.

The whole ballroom is packed!

As usual, opening speeches and Michael Lai did an impressive speech on stage. It looks like impromptu but, he has his speech readilly written.

and.. then.. Dato Shaziman gave his speech and thus, THE LAUNCH!

They had an opening act, which I would like to show it here… kinda boring but I like the laser effect. KEWL!

Another launch video of the P1 WiMAX….

Chunted firework display on stage…

and then… they had a Live Streaming with Johor Bharu and Subang Hi-Tech. Watch it!

This is the boy featured in the video…

Hi name is Matthius. I hope his name is spelt correctly… heh..

What’s funny is that they had a Malaysian Book of Records for the first then subscribers of P1 WiMAX! I seriously don’t understand this part, but oh wells…

The event ended with some performances which I skipped and attended the Press Conference…

This is it… the launch was great… Prices? I shall put it up tomorrow.. then you can compare who do you want to use.. P1 WiMAX or Streaslowmyx?

  5. WiMax has a lot of potential. I heard good things about those guys. The only problem I find is that their pricing, especially for the modem, is slightly off… We’ll see how it turn out once Maxis and co enter the Market :-)

  6. Not to sure about wimax thingy as new format need new gadgets, etc = more money to fork out.
Had experience living in Paris last year, subscribed to ADSL 2 from Orange Network with cheapest package of 8 Mbps (with LAN TV) for 30 euros/month, think next offer was 18Mbps…now this wimax thingy, I read somewhere, up to 10Mbps then will be regulated to 3.5Mbps….heck…why don’t streamyx upgrade their ADSL-1 to ADSL 2 and unleash more bandwith for goodness sake.

  7. Somehow we have to understand why those advanced industrialise countries are providing extremely high speed ADSL, but malaysia ADSL is stagnant at speed that was offered by others many years, furthermore connection and reliability is not there. To be frank with you, Malaysia will always be lacking behind others even in another 50 years. So what if we have wimax? 99% of the broadband users doesnt leave their home for internet access!! We can talk and talk malaysia is first in this, first in that….but those are just freaking PR.
