The Elephant and The Sea

July 27, 2008 – 1:20 am

Malaysia seriously needs more local talents like Woo Ming Jin and Edmund Yeo.
The former is the director of this film and the later is the associate producer. They both and their whole production team at Greenlight Pictures should be given a round of applause for their work so far…

Greenlight Pictures is a Malaysian production company behind such critically-acclaimed films like THE ELEPHANT AND THE SEA and MONDAY MORNING GLORY. Along with the immensely popular telemovies, DAYS OF THE TURQUOISE SKY (KURUS) and CINTA TIGA SEGI, and short films like BLUE ROOF, IT’S POSSIBLE YOUR HEART CANNOT BE BROKEN, LOVE FOR DOGS, CHICKEN RICE MYSTERY and etc.

Today, I’m talking about The Elephant and The Sea. This film has won four international awards with the recent “Best Director” award at the DIBA Digital Barcelona Film Festival in Spain. The other awards are “Winner Special Jury Prize” at the Torino International Film Festival and two awards at the Cine Digital Seoul Film Festival, “Best Director Award” and “Critics Award“.

Woo Ming Jin, the next Yasmin Ahmad to be? You’ll never know.

I watched the trailer of The Elephant and The Sea when it was released and I loved it!

Set in a coastal village in northern Malaysia, “The Elephant And The Sea” is a film about the lives of two individuals, one fisherman by trade (Ah Ngau) and another aimless young boy (Yun Ding) after a mysterious water-borne disease strikes the area.

You should watch too! (Click play and let it stream first)

Don’t you just love it? I can’t wait for it to be shown to the public.

When you ask?

It will be shown exclusively at The Picturehouse in Cathay Cineplexes @ Cineleisure Damansara.

**UPDATE - CONTEST! CONTEST! **

I decided to throw in a small contest for readers of YapThomas to win tickets to watch The Elephant and The Sea. I’ve got a handful of tickets, say more than 5, to offer to my dear readers to catch this award winning movie at Cathay Cineplexes on the 21st August 2008.

All you need to do is leave a comment on “What is the meaning of life to you?“…
Just a short one will do, unless you have all the time in the world…

Like for myself,

The meaning of life to me is unknown as I’m still searching…

(P/S: I might have more tickets to throw in with good response)

  12. first, thanks for posting about this. i’m really keen to watch. until when will it be running at picturehouse?

as for my take on your question, life is about being in the moment. it’s about keeping your eye on shifting destinations, and not forgetting to enjoy the simple experiences, the wonderful people, (and the yummy food) along the way.

steph: it is for 3 weeks screening if not mistaken. and totally agree on the “yummy food” !! haha

  14. The meaning of life, in essence, is to take what short time we have in this world to learn and to love and to understand. If we would to learn, we would know, and thus we would appreciate what we have. With this comes the understanding required to truly embrace the meaning of humanity, all that makes us who we are and maybe even more than that.

  15. Thomas. I left a “not”. It is “should not”

  16. The meaning of life to me is to understand that you only live once and that speaks for living life to the fullest and with no regrets =D
