Memoirs on Chinese New Year

February 19, 2007 – 3:49 am

This Chinese New Year is very quiet compared to many others previously.
Maybe it is because I am getting older or what?

Seriously! the same goes to my friends and families.
Everyone is saying that this year’s Chinese New Year is subdue and not as
hype as years before or when I was younger.
I remember the days when my friends and I will be making plans of our
visits already and all message and appointment will be made beforehand.
This year- NOTHING. Maybe they are expecting me to do all the calling
as like before. hahaha…

Today has been a day of hectic. First of all, I have to go back to office and
issue a ticket for my corporate client who needs to fly back to Houston!
I woke up late and went to office at around 12noon. Disaster happens
when I realized I never bring my office key and I have to drive all the way
back to Klang to get my office keys. *fcked up*

Done with all the office work at around 2pm++ and then head back down
and fetch my mom to my aunt’s place and the to one of my cousin’s.

Nite was my uncle’s place and then later around 10pm++ to Mun’s “Mini
Casino” session… haha. Played small version of poker and learned abit
of mahjong.

This year’s Chinese New Year is full of memories recalled. Some family
members were not happy with some others, and all this because of $$$.
At my uncle’s, I learned that my dad started smoking back in the olden
days because the shop did no have a 2 cents change and in exchange of
that, he get’s a stick of ciggy..

Whenever he buys something from the same shop, there would be a
2cents change, but the shop-owner gave my dad a stick of ciggy instead
of the change as he doesn’t have any. Also shared were stories of my
missing uncle, and how the living expenses were so low that, you can
practically buy a week’s grocery with like RM 2 (minimum) and you
are only earning like RM 80 per month. That was back in the 60s.
Imagine what can you get with that pay NOW.

So many happy moments and stories told and also ANG PAUs..

Tomorrow will be another day of visiting and I will have a lunch
with my aunties and cousins from my mom’s side, an annual affair.
Dad will be going down to Malacca with others, an annual affair too.
I can’t follow, rather decided not to follow as my days off are limited as
per the calendar.

Oh wells.. tired and sleepy.. NITEZ!!
